When I began blogging, I used the blog as an outlet to download ideas I had around consulting to management. For a long while, we never told anyone about the blog although if one surfed through our Website, it would be found. Today, it has a 'headline' banner on the home page. What topic I choose for each week is what is on my mind at the moment. These ideas come from reading, watching TV, working with clients, or, occasionally, over hearing conversations.
The weekly blogs now cover a range of topic areas that all have to do with managing one's work, life and environment, in addition to managing business. Thus I have blogged on topics under Consulting (dealing with clients), Just Managing (dealing with one's life or work), Current Affairs (dealing with what's happening in the world), Religion (dealing with personal beliefs), Life Balance (dealing with things to take control of life and work), Globalization (dealing with events that impact the world), and a single blog post on Travel (dealing with observations while travelling).
This is a wonderful way to formalize one's thoughts on a topic. It is also a simple way of capturing diverse ideas and thoughts without worry about connecting one thought with another. Writing it down gets it out so the ideas don't just wallow in our heads -- they find expression. Maybe I can compile the ideas into a book of stuff. I have enjoyed having this outlet to document my thoughts and have not been concerned if anyone is reading these.
My next venture will be to see if I can create mini-blogs using Twitter (@InspiredResults), the social media networking tool. Yikes, only 140 total characters allowed. Hmmm, it will be a very short book!
