Interesting concept that in part we learn in order to unlearn what we already learned. Simple thought. I had never looked upon learning in that fashion. And now that I am aware of this concept, I can see that it is true in many ways. The more I learn about a person, the more of the learned biases and prejudices I release. I begin to appreciate the uniqueness of the person more. The more the astronomers study the heavens, the more we learn that what we knew years ago is no longer true, e.g., pluto is no longer a planet!
Well, this idea to learn to unlearn is a truism in education isn't it? What we learn helps advance the field we study, in part by effectively 'unlearning' what was previously thought to be true.
In my mind, the importance of this framing about education is that it puts a 'getting-it-correct' spin on learning -- something we all can use. In order to get it all together with the world, I will continue to learn.
