Helen Keller said this. It's about making life interesting, about living life. It's about getting out and going somewhere, doing something. It is about creating memories. It is about sharing experiences with others. It's about doing more for others than for ourselves.
I find that when I get buried in my work that I need to gain perspective and life balance by listening to what others have said about life. I tend to need the reminder that life is not just about working. It is about working for a purpose, working to help others, working to achieve some grander purpose. Yes, and working to take a vacation. When I stop to reflect, it helps me to re-calibrate my life purpose. It helps me to stop to see what 'track' I am on. Does the current track lead me to a worthy destination, or just another track that leads to yet another one with little meaning?
What Keller said is a reminder for me to consider the fullness of life and not to be one-dimensional, i.e., 'trapped' by my work and life.
